KIMONO GOHUKU Journal — No.1
The Day I Began to See Kimono Differently

I did not begin unstitching kimono because I loved them.
At the time, I was taking old kimono apart to transform them into something new.
One day, while unstitching one of my grandmother’s kimono, my hands stopped.
At the edge of the sleeve was a tiny knot that would not come undone.
I tried again and again, but it did not move.
That small knot changed the way I saw kimono.
Until then, I had mainly noticed their colors and patterns. For the first time, I began to see the care hidden inside them—the quiet craftsmanship placed in parts that no one would notice while the kimono was being worn.
That moment taught me something about Japanese aesthetics.
Beauty does not always ask to be seen.
Sometimes, it lives quietly in places hidden from view.
Since then, I have not chosen a kimono simply because it is old, rare, or valuable.
I choose the pieces in which I can feel this quiet beauty.
That is where KIMONO GOHUKU began.
Beauty can live quietly, in places no one else sees.
Thank you for reading.
See you in the next Journal.
With gratitude,
